Gutter problems can occur over time, and the most common ones are clogging, leaks and sagging. Fortunately, when these issues are detected and addressed early, extensive damage to your roof and foundation can be prevented.
That said, you should have your gutters regularly inspected. And in case of damage or issues, you should call your trusted gutter contractor. In this post, gutter and roof replacement expert Tango & Gatti discusses how the pros usually fix some common gutter issues.
Clogging can usually be found in the elbows of gutter sections because debris can easily accumulate in these areas. To remove the blockage, experts may have to take the sections apart and then clean out the debris and dirt buildup. For a long-term solution, though, you should consider adding gutter guards to keep leaves and other debris out of the gutters.
Gutter repair experts often find leaks in the joints between the sections. Typically, when water is not able to flow or drain from the gutters, it can penetrate the seams and cause leaking. To determine the cause of the leak and extent of damage, professionals look for signs of standing water and sagging. And in order to fix the problem, they may adjust or add gutter hangers as needed. Furthermore, they would have to apply silicone or a gutter caulking compound on the inside and outside of the affected seams. This will ensure that the leaks are sealed properly.
Sagging is often the result when gutters and downspouts are unable to discharge water. The gutters become loaded with water, and the added weight can cause the gutter material to bend and sag. Furthermore, the hangers may become loose, so experts will have to look into these as well. During inspection, they have to check for standing water or water marks on the inside of gutters. They also have to make sure that the slope of the gutter is correct. Sagging gutters are best fixed by replacing the hangers or reseating them.
